Saint Lucide 2020
The effigy of Saint Lucide adorns the old chapel of the castle. We chose his name for our first vintage of Syrah
Terroir
North facing, altitude of 300 m. Plots representing the geological range of the area: Quaternary limestone scree, Urgonian limestone scree and Eocene clayey sands; high daily thermal amplitude, all year round.
Culture
Organic conversion started at the end of 2018; vines 40 years old on average; organic fertilizers; active promotion of biodiversity and enrichment of the microbiome.
Harvest
Between September 16 and 28. Low yields, around 20 hl/ha.
Winemaking
3-week maceration for Syrah and Grenache; semi-carbonic maceration for Carignan;
blend 92% Syrah, 5% Grenache, 3% Carignan;
18-month aging, 45% in oak truncated cone vats, 30% in tuns and 25% in stainless steel vats; sulfiting below biodynamic standards. ALC 14%
Tasting
Color: deep red with purple highlights. Nose: blackberry, concentrated black fruits; spices, pepper, grilled meat, hint of toasted bread. Palate: amplified aromas, especially spices; well-integrated wood; firm but melted tannins; good length.
